“We met in Leeds on Tinder, and our first date was the first time either of us had been on a Tinder date. I think the app is aimed at people looking for casual hook-ups, which means that we were both terrible Tinder users!
I don’t think either of us expected much from that first date, but by the end of the evening I think we could both already feel that there was some potential there, and I was really excited about seeing her again.
I know that early on, she was worried that I’d think she was too blunt – she’s German and they are a bit more straight talking than us Brits. But I actually found it really refreshing – I like it when someone is not afraid of really telling you what they think.
For our third date I invited her to my house to watch her team (Bayern Munich) play in the Champions League. Her friends and family apparently all advised her against it, as they thought I’d be terrified when I saw how much she shouts at the TV when Bayern are playing!
We got through that night unscathed though, and within a few months Sandra had moved in with me. Shortly after that we moved down to London together.
Last year we went on holiday to Costa Rica and I asked her to marry me one night as we were looking out over the jungle on the Pacific coast. Her immediate response was ‘Are you crazy!?’ but thankfully after a few seconds she remembered to say ‘Yes’. We’re going to be getting married in Bavaria this summer and I can’t wait.”

“We met in Leeds, on Tinder. Since this was my first tinder date, and I was nervous about meeting a creep, I had arranged with my best friend to call me once an hour. With my exit plan arranged, I walked into the pub to meet the guy who would later become my husband.
My heart made a jump when I saw him drinking a Bavarian beer – how better to impress a Bavarian girl? We were off to a good start, and I remember our countless drinks during our first date like it was yesterday.
During our second date we ended up in the wrong cinema room by accident and both of us thought it was hilarious. A year into our relationship I heavily injured my back and required several surgeries. I am incredibly thankful for the love and care he gave me during this time.
We may have sucked at Tinder, but we found each other!
Despite so many differences; me German, him half British half Israeli; me a scientist, him an artist; me a bubbly, excitable PhD student, him a free lancing entrepreneur; or maybe exactly because of those differences, our time together flies past like a big adventure.
Our journey together has since taken us from Leeds to London, and from London to The Netherlands.
We are going to get married in a forest this summer and I cannot wait for the next adventure with my then husband in crime!”
